Neigh Tangles is one of the four finalists that will be taking to the BETA International Seminar Theatre stage, sponsored by Helmet Connect, at 3.45pm on Sunday 27th September. Here, alongside three other entrepreneurs and small business owners, Neigh Tangles will pitch for the chance to win up to £250,000 investment in the brand.
Presenting in front of David Mitson, Joanna Jensen, and Michael Darley, Neigh Tangles will pitch the business, the opportunity, and what could be achieved should they secure investment. Over to the team to tell us more about the brand…
Can you tell us what business/opportunity you submitted a pitch for?
We are Neigh Tangles, a luxury, mango-scented mane and tail detangler. Created by two young equestrians from the North East of Scotland — Holly, aged 11, and Sadie, aged 15.
Our vision is to grow Neigh Tangles product under our parent brand, Neigh Mare, into a recognisable equestrian grooming brand, starting in the UK and hopefully one day reaching much further.
We’re at the very beginning of our journey and we have a big ambition: to turn a lifestyle and hobby we love into something we can build our future around.
Was there a moment that inspired the creation of your business/product?
Horses have always been a huge part of our lives. We’ve both ridden from a very young age and are lucky enough to have our own ponies, who we look after ourselves.
As we’ve gotten older, we’ve realised just how expensive being an equestrian can be! We started thinking about how we could create something of our own that could help us build an income around our passion.
That’s when the idea for Neigh Tangles started.
We wanted to create something we would genuinely use ourselves daily, had a luxury feel at an affordable price point, with a wonderful scent and a product other horse and pony owners would love too. So Neigh Tangles, Mango Scented Mane and Tail Detangler was born - Early 2026.
We’re still at school, but we’re already thinking about how our passion for horses could become our future.
What makes you and your business different from others out there?
Neigh Tangles has a real story behind it.
It wasn’t created in a boardroom. It was created by two young equestrians who wanted to turn their love of horses into a business.
Even our name has a story. “Neigh” is a nod to the sound a horse makes, while the brand has a fun connection to our Scottish roots.
We’ve also created a premium black-and-gold identity because we wanted Neigh Tangles to feel luxurious but still be affordable for everyday equestrians.
And we think being young is one of our biggest strengths.
We can grow our community as we grow ourselves, sharing our lives as young equestrians, our ponies, grooming tips, product demonstrations, behind-the-scenes moments and all the fun that comes with building a business.
We’re not just building a product; we’re building our story and community.
What’s been the biggest high point in your business so far?
Receiving an email from David Mitson was definitely one of our biggest moments.
We were so excited, and honestly a little bit shocked, that David had read our story and taken an interest in what we were doing.
For two girls from the North East of Scotland, that was a huge moment.
It made us think, “Wow… people are actually noticing what we’re trying to build, grow and achieve!”
How did you feel when you were told you’d made it through to the live pitch?
Absolutely over the moon! Stars and rainbows!
There was lots of excitement. This is actually happening!
We started Neigh Tangles with money borrowed from the Bank of Mum and Dad. We created the product, launched it, made sales and repaid our original investment.
Now we feel ready for the next step.
Making it through to the live pitch feels like the beginning of something much bigger.
We’ve started it ourselves. Now we’re ready for a Mustang.
What do you want the Mustangs and potential investment to help you achieve?
We aren’t simply asking someone to invest in a bottle of mane and tail detangler to sell.
We are asking the Mustangs to invest in a story, a journey, a brand and a community.
To develop Neigh Tangles and grow Neigh Mare into a wider equestrian grooming brand, while improving our website, e-commerce and social media presence.
We also want to learn from people who have already built successful businesses. We know that we have lots to learn, and having the right guidance and experience around us would be amazing.
Our dream is to build a business that can grow with us and become a brand for the next generation of equestrians. A recognised name.
As a young business, what’s something you know now you wish you knew when you started?
We didn’t realise how much there is to learn about running a business!
We are also learning how important social media is to a business. Because we are 11 and 15, our parents help us with our social media and keep us safe online, but we both really enjoy creating content and sharing our journey.
We are still learning about websites, online selling, marketing and growing a brand, but that’s part of the fun. We don’t think being young is a disadvantage, we’re learning as we go and growing our business as we grow up.
What advice would you give any others looking to start a business?
Don’t be scared to have a go, whatever your age!
If you have an idea that you really believe in, chat to people, and ask for help. We have learned that things can cost more than expected, so it’s really important to spend carefully and listen to experts.
We are stocked in Aberdeenshire wquestrian shops, we love seeing our brand on their shelves.
You don’t have to know everything before you start, just be willing to learn and move forward.
Where can people find out more about you online/social?
You can follow our Neigh Tangles journey on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok @neightangles
We’d love people to follow us and watch our story grow.
