The British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) was formed in 1979 to support the equestrian industry across manufacturing, retail and wholesale. Until 2024, BETA owned BETA International, and this year sees the first show with Raccoon Media Group as the owners. We caught up with Claire Williams, Executive Director of BETA, to hear why she’s looking forward to this year’s BETA International…
This will be the first BETA International with Raccoon Media Group at the helm, what are you excited about and how are you feeling about it?
We are keen to see how Raccoon have put their own touches to the event, though it hasn’t been easy handing over the reins! It’s as if I’ve passed over my favourite eventer to a new rider! I know that they understand the heritage of the show and want to do the best to ensure it grows so there are the familiar features alongside some new exciting developments.
BETA International is heading back to the NEC this year, how do you feel about the change?
We are really excited about seeing the show back at the NEC. We left very reluctantly after our 2020 show so it is so satisfying to see it return to the place it really grew and established its name. We are looking forward to seeing how it looks back in a new Hall with lots of new exhibitors.
BETA International will be co located with PATS this year for the first time, what are the benefits to exhibitors and visitors as you see it?
Two shows under one roof is always a bonus for visitors and exhibitors. It will expose a lot of visitors from the pet sector to the opportunities offered by the equestrian market, especially perhaps on the clothing side that may not be seen at PATS. Equally we all know how much riders and owners love their dogs, so BETA International retailers will have the chance to see what opportunities may exist from adding pet accessories to their ranges.
Why should people come and see the BETA team on your stand at the show?
So many of the trade know BETA by name but not always the people who look after them and work on their behalf from the BETA office so now is the chance to put faces to names. We have so many opportunities and benefits available to members, if you’re not one then come and find out more – from events to networking through training and export development opportunities whether you are a retailer, manufacturer or service provider, there is a reason for you to become part of the BETA family and benefit from the benefits and support we can offer. We’ll also be sharing information about our new ENFAR scheme for nutritionists, and providing information about our inaugural Bitting, Bridles and Saddlery Conference in October this year.
